Welcome To Sheboygan County Writers' Club
About Us
The Sheboygan County Writers' Club was founded on February 28, 1957 with ten members attending the first meeting. It was held in the Forum Room of Mead Public Library in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Its primary objective is to encourage and aid members in the art of creative writing through the exchange of ideas, educational material, and constructive criticism. Meetings have continued each month since then. Membership is open to all Sheboygan County residents. Presently, the club has a roster of about 30 members. Co-Presidents are Jane Kocmoud and Ann Pirrung, with Robert Whittaker serving as Vice-President, and Betty Becker as Treasurer.
Events & Contests
The Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets Third Place Award in the Poets Choice category was awarded to Jane Kocmoud in September, 2003. The club hosted an Open Microphone Poetry Reading on Saturday, October 18, 2003, in the Carriage House Cafe at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Members presented readings to the public.
Highlights
The club hosted conferences of the Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association in 1960, 1973 and 1994. WRWA Board members include Dorothy Literski, Mary Pat Doheny, Cordie Eigenberger, Hilbert Mueller, Eileen Ehnert and Betty Becker. Sylvia Bright-Green was the president of WRWA from 1989 to 1992. WRWA Jade rings were won by Donna Pape, Joy Daane, Eileen Ehnert, Dorothy Literski and Lucy Baras.

Published members include: Joy Daane (syndicated humorist--three books of her columns), Anthologies (Many Beaches Press), edited by Paul Hanson; The Garden Talks by Jane Koumoud, (3/03); Potpourri From Kettle Land (2000) (Savage Press), by Irene Luethge; Whittling for Beginners (2002) by Sy Regan, Famous Wisconsin Mystics (2003), and Cup of Comfort for Christmas (2003) by Sylvia Bright-Green who also has co-authored a book of the history of Sheboygan county (1988), Donna Pape, who has sold more than 100 different children's books, and Robert Whittaker: Non Fiction 1983; Strawberry Wisdom, "Oil for the squeaky wheel of life. Meetings
The club meets monthly on the second Monday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1019 N. Seventh Street, Sheboygan, Wisconsin. (Use East Entrance.) Activities include manuscript reading, critique, marketing, conferences & contest information. Dues are $1 per meeting.
